What is Blue Light?

Well, to understand why we need blue light glasses, we have to understand what blue light is...

You might have heard the term 'blue light' being thrown around. But what exactly is it? Let's try and explain it briefly: It's a very short, high-frequency wavelength, and it's all around us. In fact, blue light makes up for around one third of all light that we see.

So Why is it Bad?

Well, it's not always! In fact, blue light can be beneficial for us. The sun is the biggest producer of blue light, and during the day these natural wavelengths help keep us alert, awake and productive. Blue light also helps us with our sleep cycle, so our bodies know when to wind down as night approaches.

The problem comes when there's too much artificial blue light coming from our electronic devices. Given that most of us spend at least 8 hours in front of screens every day, we're being exposed to way more blue light than our bodies can handle.

Our eyes are pretty good at blocking UV rays, but they are almost useless at blocking artificial blue light. Almost all blue light makes its way directly to the light-sensitive retina, which over time can have some pretty serious effects on our health.
